The Chatroom is a place of communication. It is supported by the IRC Applet installed into different places and is hosted by the DarkMyst server owned by Ryan. There has been quite a history of the chatroom, and it has evolved a lot since it was started in October 2006. Today, it is possibly the most famous location users go to, followed by Userpedia. At all times there are about six thousand users on chat though few of them are on channels relating to users of Userpedia.

History

Mariowiki Chatroom

Early Days

In its early days, that chatroom was very wild, and un-ordered, located solely in the Forum, where only forum members could use it. Since back then no one knew how to install ChanServ and such things, users were free to talk about anything they wanted, and cursed freely. Porn and other mature content was often spoken about in the chatroom, until younger users started to come into the chat. Most users, such as Plumber and RAP, spammed to their hearts content.

When no one was in the chat, the first person who joined #mariowiki at that time became the Operator, or op of that channel. However, no one knew that, so the chat was unaffected. After Isyou had been a chat op (being in the room first) for an entire day, Wayoshi forced him to op him, having discovered what ops were capable of. Being oped, Wayoshi decided to test some operator powers he had read on Wikipedia. The first command he tried out was the /kick command, which was tested on Plumber. However, Plumber had just read how to join a channel on Wikipedia, so he joined quickly thereafter. Wayoshi also told users of the /nick and /me commands, something he regretted, as many changed their nicks to random things. Wayoshi decided that as long as there were no impersonations, this was okay.

The Age of Order

Wayoshi later decided to register the channel with ChanServ. This revolutionized the chatroom, as Wayoshi had the power to kick, and even ban other users. Knowing that Plumber knew how to join after a kick, Wayoshi tested the /ban command on him. Many new rules were also forged, stopping the antics of spammers. Porplemontage later made it so any visitor to the forum could access the chat. Later that day, the chat was moved to the wiki, and several new users joined it, and several new rules were created. Sysops and Patrollers were allowed operator status, and were allowed to kick any users who did not have a nickname of their user name.

The Willy Attacks

Growing increasingly stressful, in Summer 2007, Wayoshi spammed, cursed, and spoke of porn in the chatroom under the alias of Willy, targeting users such as Beanbean or Max2. The only ones who knew this were WarioLoaf, Knife, and HK-47, though they told no one. Willy attacked the chatroom often, harassing others, and saying dirty things. The Fantendo chatroom was often used as a refuge during these dark times. KPH2293 and Xzelion eventually caught onto Wayoshi. After KPH2293 retired out as a silent protest, Wayoshi stopped the attacks, although KPH's true intentions were to subtly let Wayoshi know that he was onto him (he was never actually going to retire). However, Wayoshi soon cracked and admitted he was Willy. Forced by HK-47 to either retire and resign or be blocked for treason, Wayoshi resigned. He gave a full confession, and most forgave him for the crimes he did.

Post-Willy

The chatroom became even stricter after the Willy attacks. It was quite common to be banned for days for saying a small outburst of Spam or flames. Back-up ops were also created, which is how many users (such as Pokemon DP) became patrollers and eventually sysops. DP made many more back-up ops, and was criticized because most of them were his friends. When Wayoshi became a sysop again, he was not allowed to regain his op title. Wayoshi and Ghost Jam are the only sysops to have this restriction.

Today

Today, the original #mariowiki has been abandoned by the administration of the wiki for tarnishing the image of the wiki in the eyes of people like Paper Jorge and Noahp89, two haters of the chatroom who wanted to take this action a step further and simply delete #mariowiki. Needless to say, #mariowiki's operators were never contacted on this decision, the decision was made solely by the wiki's administrative team and banned trolls such as Noahp89.

The wiki's new official chatroom is #mwikitalk, while the original #mariowiki is no longer affiliated in any way and is effectively led by Uniju.

Channels

These are some of the other channels that appear on the DarkMyst server and relate to userpedia.

Wiki Chatrooms

#MarioWiki

#MarioWiki has the most activity out of all MarioWiki-related channels (although it is no longer officially affiliated), followed closely by #userpedia (although #userpedia usually has more chatters in it).

#Mwshroom

#mwshroom is the mariowiki's official channel for all things to do with The 'Shroom. It is owned by the current director of the shroom (Tucayo) and used to discuss all of the wiki's shroom-related topics.

#Mwikitalk

#mwikitalk was originally the stricter on-topic version of #mariowiki, but is now the stricter on-topic version of #mwchat.

#Mwchat

#mwchat is the Mario Wiki's official off-topic channel, although it is almost never used (even its founder comes in just about once every few weeks).

#Mwikistaff

#Mwikistaff is the mariowiki's special admins only chatroom. It is set to restrict all users with a power level below fifty and is where the ops congregate to talk about different things to do with the wiki. It is incredibly active most of the time, considering it has around 5 active chatters.

#Userpedia

#Userpedia is a chatroom about Userpedia, and generally has the highest amount of chatters in the room out of all of the MarioWiki-related chatrooms, although it has a considerably low amount of activity for the amount of chatters in it (most of the users usually chat in other rooms).

#Disconnected

#Disconnected and #Updisconnected are two chatrooms that were used to house userpedia's newspaper The Disconnected. The first was founded by MG1 but he gave it to Super Mario Bros. as SMB was the director of the disconnected. Then one night SMB had his nick dropped and the channel glitched up therefore making Shroobario the founder. SMB and MG1 abandoned that chat and moved the disconnected's main base to #disconnected where MG1 is the current founder and director of the disconnected.

#Upstaff

#Upstaff is Userpedia's copy off of #mwikistaff of an admins only chatroom except that moderators from the forum are also allowed in. It was made by Glaive and the access list is different as Glaive has a power of 200 and St000b and Tabuu only have 199.

#Upops

#Upops is almost exactly the same as #upstaff except that this chatroom was founded by MG1 who then gave over control to St00b after he made the access list. The point of this channel is to allow all ops of #userpedia and admins of Userpedia to discuss the goings on of the chatroom.

#Fantendo

#Fantendo is the chatroom located on Fantendo. The applet doesn't allow for colored fonts (other than changing the text color), but, unlike the Mariowiki and Userpedia applets, it is unrestricted.

#Sandwich

#Sandwich is the chatroom located on the B-KWiki and was created by Turboo. It is the main chatroom for the B-KWiki and has a bot in it called Chatot/Ditto who will randomly post trivia and give everybody levels depending on what trivia the user gets right.

Users' Chatrooms

#Shroobs

#Shroobs was the first chatroom created by a User (other than #mariowiki, of course). It was created by Shroobario; however, it soon went inactive and was removed from the mariowiki applet. Later, Shroobario revived it. #Shroobs was host to Shroid, before Shrooby disabled him, and was one of the more popular user chatrooms; however, users need a password to enter.

#Chat

#Chat was a chatroom created by Jdrowlands as a test for bots and the like. Soon, however, Wayoshi and Shroobario found it. It was later added to the MarioWiki applet. A common joke in the room is the bot being flamed. It recently was taken over by Grapes.

#1337Chat

#1337Chat is 1337Yoshi's chatroom, and was also host to the short-lived 1337droid before it was removed. Unlike many chatrooms, 1337Yoshi is more lenient with the rules, allowing Users to spam and op abuse sometimes.

#SuperChat

#SuperChat is a chatroom Super-Yoshi created, and it became a success (probably because of the "Spamming is allowed" rule). He usually makes everyone an op, and like 1337Yoshi, he allows ops to abuse their power.

#Paperchat

#Paperchat is Paper Jorge's chatroom created around July 2008. It was built for his bot under the name Jackie Chan, however his bot was obscured by his more popular bot, Ronald McDonald, in #unmario. Paperchat soon died. It began coming back in the begining of 2009, however only to die again. It now serves as a chat in where Jorge and Palkia47 (sometimes RFM and DHS) roleplay in.

#Cookieville

#Cookieville is one of the least popular and least active rooms and is Hemus chatroom. It has a bot named CookieServ. This chat has almost no rules.

#meep

#meep, Neurario's chatroom, was originally created as #ANeurarianConundrum, but was renamed because it was too long for most people to type. All users who join it are automatically voiced and the chatroom is set on '+m' by default, which means that non-voiced people cannot chat.

#TotoChat

#TotoChat is a somewhat inactive channel. As its name says, Totodile3456 created it. The only rules are "There are no rules", "The previous rule is a lie", "Toto is always right" and "If Toto is ever wrong please refer back to rule 3". You can talk about anything in there except for sexually-related things. Toto made a bot for #Totochat named PIDGEH. His presence made the chat a bit more active than usual.

#Palkgiuschat

#Palkgiuschat is a very active channel, usually ranging from 5 to 15 people a day on it. The chat was created by Super-Yoshi for Palkia47 after a hacking incident with TCY on Palkia's original Chat, #packychat. The only rule included in the Chat is to not ban anyone. #Palkgiuschat has also been used for the constant op abuse, RP's, scripts, etc. Palkia plans to make a bot for #Palkgiuschat.

#HarryPotter

#HarryPotter is a user channel made by Yoshario and is co-founded by Glaive. It is used for Harry Potter discussion, and is home to bots such as "Floppy the House-Elf" and "Luna_Lovegood".

#Trial

#trial is a user channel. It was first made by Glaive but Glaive went inactive so it was dropped and picked up bye SMB. SMB then figured out that Glaive was the owner and gave it back to him.

#Marioguychat

#marioguychat is a user channel owned by Marioguy1. He created it a long time ago and it does not have ChanServ in it but does have GameServ.

#Ralphchat

#ralphchat is a user channel which was created by Ralphfan. In it, Ralph posts sports scores and goofs off, along with a few other users, most of whom have op powers. The channel has become more active since Ralph's banning from #mariowiki and #userpedia. He has begun to invite many of the MW Admins, hoping the great events that take place in #mwikistaff will venture in to his chat. Although these efforts are not always successful, an RPG-style fight between 2257 and Edo took place one night near 2 am Eastern time, the latest time the chat has ever been active.

The current users with authority are:

Other

#mwikihaven

#mwikihaven is the first in-character Mariowiki chatroom. It was created by Scarecrow von Steuben and KingAbra, and quickly began to gain attention. In the chatroom, users are completely in-character as their userpedia characters. The main setting for #mwikihaven, obviously, is the Haven. The Haven is said to be Neurario's old mansion, currently being used as a refuge for Userpedians to escape a supernatural blizzard. The chat was abandoned long ago and is possibly unregistered.

#mwidle

#mwidle is a chatroom created by Jdrowlands. Unlike most chatrooms, the point of it is to sit around doing nothing while an RPG plays out. It is watched over by a bot named IdleRPG.

Appearances

  • In Server's End, the chat had major role. In it, the chat gets a Netsplit and users in chat are sent to two different, seperate dimensions. The comic was cancelled however.
