Patroller

Patrollers are a group of users that have some of the abilities a Sysop does — Block, Rollback, Patrol, and CheckUser (the latter ability was added on 13 September 2009). With the use of these powers, Patrollers have the necessary abilities to stop a troll on the wiki. The rank was originally put in place on the Super Mario Wiki on April 15, 2007; on that day, four users were promoted to Patroller. On March 26, 2008, not even a year later, the Patroller ranking was removed because of its lack of usefulness; all Patrollers at that time were promoted to Sysop. On January 11, 2009, the Patroller ranking was brought back once more after much support for the ranking from Stooben Rooben and Stumpers. There are currently four Patrollers on the Super Mario Wiki, the newest one being Bloc Partier.
On Userpedia, Patrollers became a prominent ranking once the site moved to Adriels. Stooben Rooben was the original user to suggest Patrollers on Userpedia; the Administrative staff agreed and the position was put into place. There were four Patrollers on Userpedia, until it was phased out on 15 September 2009. However, it was brought back shortly after the administrators discussed it.
The original concept of the Patroller group was to have a squad of users to help out the Sysops during spam attacks. Because Patrollers eventually were considered useless — mostly because they had the same powers as Sysops, excluding CheckUser and Delete — the ranking was abolished. Not even a year later, the ranking was revived because it was recognized as a testing ground for Sysophood, and as a way to reward good editors.
